Amnesty International

OVERVIEW
Amnesty International is a global non-governmental organization founded in London in 1961, dedicated to protecting and promoting fundamental human rights.
Its mission includes advocating for the release of prisoners of conscience, opposing torture and the death penalty, defending freedom of expression and press, and supporting refugees and marginalized communities.
Through investigations, reporting, advocacy, petitions, and global volunteer action, Amnesty International holds governments and corporations accountable. With branches in over 150 countries and more than 10 million supporters worldwide, it remains one of the most influential human rights organizations in the world.

WHAT WE Did
Gremlin Works designed a new website for Amnesty International Taiwan, beginning with strategic planning to define the site’s goals, features, and user needs.
The site was built using a headless architecture, separating the content management system (CMS) from the front-end presentation layer. This modern setup provides greater flexibility, scalability, and performance—allowing the organization to manage content efficiently while delivering a fast, seamless user experience across devices.

WHAT CHANGES DID WE MAKE
In addition to using headless architecture for development, the UI design had to strictly adhere to Amnesty International’s global brand guidelines and pass headquarters approval before moving into production.
The user interface was carefully designed to streamline user flows across various device types and user scenarios. The result is a smoother, more intuitive experience—especially in key areas such as simplifying the donation process and helping users easily explore the organization’s latest campaigns and human rights initiatives.

THE CHALLENGES
Developing Amnesty International’s website using a headless architecture presented a range of complex challenges. These included maintaining a consistent and user-friendly experience across multiple countries and regions, managing the intricacies of multilingual content workflows, and ensuring strict compliance with data privacy and security standards.
Additionally, the platform needed to seamlessly integrate dynamic advocacy actions, donation flows, and petition tools—while remaining highly flexible and scalable to meet the evolving needs of a fast-paced, global human rights organization.
